BWA are the architects leading the design for the erection of a new four-storey side extension and associated improvement works to a Victorian red-brick mansion block located in Battersea. The key design aim has been to create an attractive and functional new extension that draws its character from the existing building. Unified materiality and banding develop a sense of calm, continuity and modesty to the extension which at the same time does not mimic the taller and distinguished Victorian mansion block. The development's phased nature has allowed BWA and their client to develop facets of the technical design concurrently with the planning application. The client has taken this opportunity to fast track parts of the work and begin implementing interior improvement works ahead of time to commercially capitalise on aspects of the development as soon as possible.
